Miller & Smith Honors the Legacy of Charles Fitzgerald Stuart Jr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles “Chas” Fitzgerald Stuart Jr., a cherished member of the Miller & Smith family, who departed on January 2, 2025. Chas’s unwavering commitment, innovative vision, and deep passion for homebuilding were instrumental in shaping Miller & Smith into the company it is today.

For decades, Chas played a pivotal role in leading landmark projects, fostering community connections, and mentoring countless staff members. His dedication to quality, innovation, and community left an indelible mark on our team and the many families we’ve served.

“Chas’s leadership and creativity inspired all of us,” said Tom Hyde, Chief Operating Officer. “He embodied the spirit of Miller & Smith and taught us the importance of building not just homes but communities. His legacy will continue to guide us in all that we do.”

Chas was more than a leader; he was a mentor, a friend, and a visionary whose work touched countless lives. His contributions to various projects will forever remain a testament to his dedication and talent.

The Miller & Smith family extends our deepest condolences to Chas’s loved ones during this difficult time. Memorial arrangements will be held on January 13th from 6-8 pm at Gawler’s Funeral Home, followed by a funeral mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on January 14th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rock Creek Conservancy or the National Park Foundation

As we reflect on his incredible legacy, we commit to honoring Chas’s memory by continuing the work he was so passionate about—building homes and communities that enrich lives.
