About

Founded in 1964, Miller & Smith is among the Washington region’s largest privately owned real estate companies with expertise in land planning and development, commercial construction, homebuilding and advisory services.

Our team is comprised of talented, creative problem solvers who bring a wealth of experience gained in some of the most successful real estate development companies in the nation. We are guided by a “Do The Right Thing” mentality that drives our actions and interactions with each other, our business partners, land sellers, subcontractors, suppliers and customers.

60 Years And Growing.

Miller & Smith was founded in 1964 by David Miller and Gordon Smith, two friends from Harvard Business School who set out to create a local homebuilding company known for world-class design and customer service.

Miller & Smith’s early growth was slow and steady as the company targeted challenging projects that would showcase Miller & Smith’s design savvy and set it apart from mass-market builders. Soon, Miller & Smith earned a reputation for being a design leader and one of the Washington region’s most innovative homebuilders. The company continued to evolve as new opportunities presented themselves and Miller & Smith was able to assemble the right teams and partnerships to capitalize on them. Miller & Smith expanded its core capabilities to include land development, commercial construction and development, and real estate advisory services. Miller & Smith continued to grow very deliberately and strategically, always keeping an eye on how each project would contribute to the success of the company as well as the larger communities Miller & Smith serves. Today, Miller & Smith is proud to be among the Washington region’s largest privately-owned real estate companies. Miller & Smith’s homes division has built more than 6,250 single family homes, 9,600 townhomes, and 2,232 condominiums. Miller & Smith’s Land Development Group has developed more than 13,950 home sites in 134 communities throughout Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.

Expand Tracy Lamb

VP of Sales

A self-proclaimed student of life, Tracy lives by the personal maxim “attitude determines altitude.” And it is exactly that mindset that has catapulted her into her position today as Vice President of Sales for Miller & Smith. Tracy’s responsibilities range from generating revenue for the regional homebuilder by securing sales through closing, determining pricing based on her competitive market analysis, all while managing an entire team of administrative and sales associates. But honing her real estate sales expertise didn’t start here. Capitalizing on every opportunity that came her way, it was through her original experience working as a Managing Partner of a local Outback Steakhouse that she credits to learning how to run a business. From there, she crossed industries and began a five-year tenure with national homebuilder, Ryan Homes, working her way through the administrative branch before finally landing at Miller & Smith. Here, the company culture and the variety in her daily responsibilities, has kept her for the past 17 years. Now with a series of accolades added to her resume, Tracy has been awarded Sales Manager of the Year and Sales Leader of the Year by her colleagues in the Northern Virginia Homebuilders Association at their annual GALA Awards and was recently accepted into the John Burns Real Estate Consulting Firm’s Rising Leaders Program. Practicing what she preaches every day, with a mind over matter approach, Tracy always is ready to take every step with Miller & Smith to the next level.
